Use the Spring Season To Freshen Up The Outside Your Home
Whether you live in a beautiful house in Vaughan or a downtown condo in Mississauga or somewhere else in the GTA, the spring is the perfect time to do some reno works around your home. The lovely spring weather certainly makes us all feel a bit better after the dull winter days, and using the coming warm days to up your home value with a few upgrades can benefit you in the long run. This will especially come in handy if you plan to sell this summer or fall or sometime soon. Here are some tips on how to get the most out of the exterior of your home.
Add some colour to your entrance door.
If your entrance door doesn’t look like on the first day anymore and time has done its part, the easiest way to freshen up is to paint them. The entrance door should look inviting, and while windows may require a more subtle look, the entrance door can be a bit more colourful. From cheery colours like yellow or red to the classic wooden look with decorative glass panels, almost everything is allowed (as long as it goes with the rest of the home). You may also add new hardware.
Is it time for new windows or shutters?
New windows will freshen up your home inside and outside. This is a change you should especially consider if you experienced drafts during the winter. The most important thing is to pick a material that’s durable and offers decent insulation. Luckily, many options nowadays include energy efficiency, like fibreglass windows, which seem to be a tad better when it comes to energy retention. However, vinyl, wooden or aluminum windows are also excellent choices.
While functionality should be the primary focus, a window should also compliment the home to improve the overall effect. If your windows are still in good shape and you don’t want to replace them, you can always perk them up by adding trendy shutters. They are easy to install, come in different colours and styles, and they are convenient. Just make sure they blend in with the rest of the home. To add more charm to your home, window trims are always an excellent touch-up. You can go for the natural wood colour or paint them white, whatever goes better with the current design of your home.
Have a front yard or porch?
If you live in a detached or semi, you can work on your curb appeal by working on your porch or stairs. Stone veneer, wood and concrete (which can mimic a variety of tiles, bricks, etc.) are trendy choices because they are easy to maintain and look beautiful. However, if you live in a condo, you can shift your attention to your balcony and make sure to create a cozy outdoor corner with a new set of chairs or a modern table and add cushions for the overall effect.
Add Flowers And Plants
Flowers and plants are inseparable from the spring season, and they are probably the most affordable feature you can add to your home and still increase the home’s worth. Besides their aesthetic appeal, flowers and plants add to our emotional health. They have a calming effect, so make sure to set up some window boxes and either buy or plant flowers to welcome the spring season in full swing.
These are all easy short-term projects which do not require too much effort or money, and yet they can improve your home significantly. Any work you do on your home will show instantly, and that’s the beauty of working on all the little details.
